Backing up and restoring your data

This article helps you back up your account and restore from a backup if needed.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Data → Backup & restore.
  2. Click "Export account data", downloads a single JSON file containing every ingredient, recipe, component, order, customer, supplier, pricing tier, override, setting, and production history entry on the account.
  3. Use "Restore from backup…" to bring a file back in. This replaces everything currently in the account with the file's contents. The restore runs as one transaction, so a failure partway rolls back and leaves your existing data untouched. You'll be asked to re-confirm before it runs.
  4. Set "Remind me to back up every [N weeks]" for a recurring nudge, it also shows when your last export was ("No export recorded yet" until you've made one).

What to expect
A backup is comprehensive, it's built to fully reconstruct the account, including production history and pricing overrides, not just the catalogue data.

Common issues

  • Restored a backup and lost recent work, restore fully replaces the account's current data with the file's contents; there's no merge. Export a fresh backup immediately before restoring an older one if you want to keep both.
