Using components

Steps

1. Open Components (under Library), the same left-index-plus-single-pane layout as Recipe Book, with Print selected/Print all, Bulk upload, and a tag filter. If the editing pane feels cramped or content runs off the right edge of the screen, use the collapse-sidebar control at the top of the left-hand navigation to reclaim width.
2. Create one: name, category (its own managed list, separate from recipe categories), a Batch yield field, description, tags, and an "Include this component's ingredients in low-stock warnings" toggle (turn off for seasonal/off-menu components).
3. Add ingredient and subheading lines. A component can also reference another component as a line (nested components), which is how MakrPrep supports multi-stage sub-recipes (for example, Vanilla Diplomat Cream referencing the Vanilla Pastry Cream component as one of its lines). Nested costs and allergens roll up automatically through every level.
4. There's no pricing on a component directly. Its cost only surfaces through whichever recipe uses it, shown as Batch cost and Cost per g (or per ml/each) on the component itself.
5. Allergens aggregate automatically from ingredients, labelled "Allergens (aggregated)", plus manual additions.

6. Use Duplicate component to branch a new one from an existing one.

   

Common issues

• Wanting to build a multi-stage filling or sauce: nest one component inside another rather than duplicating ingredient lines. The parent component's cost and allergens will include everything from the nested one automatically.
