Setting up pricing tiers and pricing your recipe

This article helps you set up pricing tiers and set real prices for a recipe.

Before you start
Have at least one recipe with a calculated cost per portion.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Pricing & Orders and review your pricing tiers, seeded with Retail, Wholesale, and Catering, and fully editable.
  2. Each tier has a formula that produces a suggested minimum price only, using one of three types: a multiple of cost (e.g. ×3), a fixed amount added to cost, or a value relative to another tier (a base tier, a plus/minus direction, and a percentage or fixed-amount magnitude). It's a floor to stop accidental underpricing, not a target, set your real price wherever makes sense above it.
  3. On a recipe in Recipe Book, each tier also has a real, manually-set price, this is what's actually charged. New recipes auto-fill this from the suggestion as a starting point, but it never auto-updates after that; the formula keeps producing a live reference suggestion alongside it. If you set a price below the suggested minimum, a warning icon appears next to it as a caution rather than blocking you.

  4. For bulk price management across every recipe at once, use the Pricing screen (under Library), a flat, bulk-editable table (Recipe, Tier, Cost, Suggested min., Actual Price, gross Margin) with row selection, category/tier filters, and an accept-suggested-minimum bulk action.

What to expect
Changing a tier's formula updates every recipe's suggested minimum price, but never touches the actual manually-set price already charged, you (or the bulk accept action) always control when a real price actually changes.

Common issues

  • Margin looks wrong, check whether "Margin" here means gross margin specifically; it's deliberately labelled that way since it sits next to the markup-style "multiple of cost" input and the two are easy to conflate.
  • Recipe's real price didn't change after I updated ingredient costs, expected: the actual price is manually set and stays fixed until you (or a bulk accept) change it; only the suggested minimum moves with cost.
