Building your first recipe
This article helps you write a recipe and see its cost and allergens worked out for you.
Before you start
Add a few ingredients first (see "Adding your first ingredient").
Steps
- Open Recipes, Recipe book and click the + button above the list (or Add recipe on a new account). A new recipe opens ready to edit, headed "Editing" and its name.
Give it a name, category and how many one batch makes. Add prep and cook times, a description and tags if you like.

- Add the method steps and any notes.
Click Done. The recipe now opens on its costing: cost per item as the big figure, every ingredient with what it costs, the batch total, and your prices.

Common issues
- Cost per item looks off: check "Makes N a batch" under the recipe name. Cost per item is the batch cost divided by that number.
- An allergen is missing: makrPrep only knows what's ticked on each ingredient. Check the ingredient on the Ingredients page.
