Building your first recipe
This article helps you create a recipe in the Recipe Book and see its cost and allergens calculated automatically.
Before you start
Add a few ingredients first (see "Adding your first ingredient").
Steps
- Open Recipe Book (under Library), a left-hand index of your recipes next to a single editing pane. Switching recipes in the index auto-saves the one you were on.
Create a new recipe: name (must be unique per account), category, portions per batch, prep/cook time, dietary tags, and a low-stock-inclusion toggle.

Recipe Book's left-index and single-pane layout, showing a recipe's name, category, portions, timing, and ingredient lines - Add ingredient, component, and subheading lines, grouped and reorderable.
- Add method steps and notes.
- Cost per portion calculates recursively (including anything nested inside components) and updates live as you edit.
- Allergens combine automatically from every ingredient used, including inside nested components, plus any manual additions you add directly on the recipe.
Use Duplicate to start a new recipe from an existing one rather than from scratch.

What to expect
Cost per portion and the allergen list both recalculate live as you edit lines, no manual recalculation step, and both correctly follow components nested inside other components.
Common issues
- Cost per portion looks off, check the portions-per-batch field; cost per portion is batch cost divided by that number.
- Allergen missing, it only reflects what's tagged on the actual ingredients used (directly or via nested components) plus manual additions, not anything inferred from the recipe name or description.
